Bipartisanship Plus
Beyond Policy
We’re not ones to restrict our vision.
The sky can’t be the limit to what we can do as a bipartisan and united cohort of students and citizens if the limit does not exist. At HUBS, we work to bring make that aspiration of limitless, cooperative, and productive democracy through advocacy for electoral reform, attendance at national conferences of like-minded bipartisan individuals, collaboration with international figures. Check out moments from our additional projects below.
Fostering Campus Cooperation
Bipartisanship grows all the more salient during times of national crisis.
In response to the tragic events of January 6th 2021, during which violent insurrectionists breached Capitol security, vandalized and stole from the bastion of our national legislature, placed the lives of our congresspeople in danger, and precipitated five deaths, HUBS helped to deconstruct the barriers that have long kept Democrats and Republicans at Harvard College from working together.
Our 2021 President, Alex White, liaised between both the Harvard Democrats and the Harvard Republican Club to initiate the drafting and dissemination of a joint statement, a bipartisan rarity in an already charged political atmosphere. We hope our work in fomenting political solidarity on campus will not only create long-lasting relationships between student groups but also shift the dynamic of politics both at Harvard and beyond. No Labels - National Conference
Our longtime partnership with No Labels, a nation-wide organization dedicated to the promotion of bipartisanship and practical policy, allowed our members to make an appearance at the 2020 No Labels Problem Solvers Convention. HUBS joined over a thousand other students and professionals committed to political cooperation, interacted with congresspeople, and even met 2020 presidential candidates.
No Labels hosted its Problem Solver Convention, featuring almost 1,500 people, members of the House Problem Solvers Caucus, presidential candidates and one of the largest focus groups ever conducted.
Zhou Fengsuo
HUBS welcomed Zhou Fengsuo, an eminent human rights activist who has lived in the United States since he escaped China, where he is currently one of the country's most-wanted individuals, due to his leadership in the demonstrations at Tiananmen Square. Engaging with such a luminous advocate for justice encouraged us to acknowledge the invaluable nature of our democracy, and how the spirit of collaborative democracy championed by HUBS can be influential beyond America's borders.
